What Is Hypnosis and How Will It Help Me Lose Weight?
Hypnosis is a powerful state of focused awareness, turned inward. It allows you to access all the healing resources from within the subconscious part of your mind to promote natural healing. The subconscious mind is like a hard drive of a computer – it stores all your memories, beliefs, and emotions. This is where your habits reside. With hypnosis, we can bypass the analytical (or conscious) part of your mind which is always questioning, always comparing any new information with what it is you already believe to be true. Remember, beliefs based on memories reside in our subconscious mind. A post-hypnotic suggestion speaks directly to the subconscious part of the mind, where suggestions are easily accepted. It is there and then that we can relearn a new, positive way of thinking - at a subconscious level.
Changing bad or negative habits by using willpower alone is often times ineffective. Why? Because your conscious mind is always asking your subconscious mind ‘how do we feel about this or that?” It’s your subconscious mind that is calling the shots. By simply telling yourself, “I need to give up sweets,” you are declaring this on a conscious level. Often times this proclamation loses steam because you are relying on willpower. Willpower is energy and energy fades. When this happens, your “belief” that you truly cannot give up sweets or bread or chips eventually comes back to the forefront of your mind and takes over. This is why diets work so well at first, but eventually stress, boredom or deprivation set in. Then that “belief” that you truly cannot live without those sweets or bread or chips, once again, becomes your reality. By speaking directly to the subconscious part of your mind, we can make positive suggestions which are easily accepted to be true because these suggestions are unfiltered by your critical thinking conscious mind. Therefore, your “belief” that you cannot give up the sweets, bread, or chips is replaced with “I have no desire for any of them.” To the person who tells me, “I cannot give up chocolate!” I say, “Really? Do you go to bed with an IV drip of melted chocolate in your arm? No, of course not! You can survive a night without chocolate! You can absolutely give up chocolate! You simply have to choose to.” Replace the sentence “I cannot give up chocolate” with “I do not want chocolate.” I know it sounds tough, impossible even, to the true chocoholic, but that thought that you cannot give up chocolate is simply a tired, old tape recording that you have been playing for far too long in your head. Hypnosis records over that old tape recording and reprograms it. Together, we can reprogram the way you view food and remove all the emotion tied to it. You can, and will be in control of food, rather than having food be in control of you.
Is it safe? Yes! There’s no “woo-woo” happening. Hypnosis is a perfectly normal and common state of mind that we go into naturally every day. Have you ever missed an exit on the highway?
